The E36 was BMW’s third generation of the popular executive car range. This variant was created to replace the, already successful, E30 chassis platform and benefited from a multilink rear suspension set-up that improved handling characteristics dramatically. This particular car was the flagship M3 variant offered in a bright Mugello Red paint with the sought after Alcantara and cloth 'Vader' interior. The M3 was designed to give the driver a more focused and performance orientated driving experience. Powered by a high revving 3.0 litre engine producing an impressive 286bhp, the M3 had heaps of performance within a car that could be used every day.
The M3 also benefited from improved brakes and a limited slip differential to separate it from the rest of the BMW range. The M3’s potential, affordable price tag and usability, propelled the car to automotive superstardom making it the benchmark coupé that other manufactures aim to compete with.
This early 3.0 litre manual E36 M3 is presented in rare Mugello Red with even rarer motorsport cloth trim. Our vendor has privately owned and cherished this example for a decade and not surprisingly, the condition is surmountable with that and a low mileage of 77,500 miles, circa 2,500 a year! Boasting a comprehensive service history, the last in April 2024 the car has also recently had the oil pump replaced with a genuine BMW unit by BMW specialists Cragos. The paint was refreshed four years ago in 2020 at a cost of £6,000 and described as ‘near perfect now’ and recently ceramic coated at a cost of £1,000 it has been used for show and shine only since.
The skyrocketing residual values of the earlier generation M3’s has had a halo effect on the rest of the BMW range over the last few years, making them highly desirable to any budding driver and collector looking for a fun vehicle to invest in. This is offered also with an MoT until July 2025 all service manuals, full folder of receipts and MoT certificates.
