Produced from 2010 to 2020, the Aston Martin Rapide recalled the grandeur and performance of the company’s Lagonda companion marque as Aston Martin’s first series-produced four-door model. Development commenced in 2005 with initial design work completed in about seven weeks by Marek Reichman. After more than four months of development, a prototype was completed and displayed at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. However, showgoers would have to wait for the production-ready version of the Rapide to make its debut at the 2009 International Motor Show in Germany, followed by a manufacturing start in May 2010 at the Magna Steyr facility in Graz, Austria.
Based on a stretched version of Aston Martin’s versatile “vertical/horizontal” (VH) vehicle platform, the Rapide ushered in high-tech materials and manufacturing processes, incorporating lightweight aluminum and composite structures throughout the body for reduced weight. When Aston Martin ended its partnership with Magna Steyr in 2012, Rapide production was shifted to Gaydon, Warwickshire, where the other VH-platform cars were being produced including the contemporary DB9, DBS, Vantage and second-generation Vanquish. Powered by a 6.0L/470 HP V-12 engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, this first-year Rapide features a black exterior finish with ceramic paint protection.
The matching black leather interior includes power-adjustable seats, power windows and power locks. Factory clear-lens tail lights, a throaty dual exhaust system and 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS are other choice features. Riding on factory 10-spoke alloy wheels mounting Bridgestone Potenza tires, this 2010 Aston Martin Rapide exemplifies its legendary maker’s unique approach to performance and luxury.
