Only ten examples of the incredible 'Superleggera Concorde' were built and this one owner, 3,000 mile car is fittingly designated G-BOAC. Announced at the end of 2019 to mark 50 years since Concorde’s first flight (and BA’s centenary), the DBS Superleggera Concorde was a 'Q by Aston Martin' creation. It joined the Vanquish S Red Arrows Edition, Vantage Blades Edition and V12 Vantage S Spitfire 80 in the Aston Martin ‘Wings Series’.
Fittingly, the car was commissioned by Aston Martin Bristol which is to be found just a runway's length away from Aerospace Bristol at Filton - the place that is now home to the last Concorde ever to fly and the location at which the British Concorde were manufactured. There were just ten 10 DBS Concordes produced, with only four in right-hand drive. The limited-edition model features a host of styling revisions over a standard Superleggera, including a silhouette of Concorde on its carbon fibre roof and a chromed version of the famous British Airways “Speedmarque” emblem on its front wings.
Inside, the DBS Superleggera Concorde features a Mach Meter graphic embroidered on the driver’s sun visor, a bespoke Alcantara headlining with a “sonic boom” graphic, new paddle shifters made from recycled titanium from Concorde’s compressor blades and a pair of unique seats, printed with the Concorde logo and British Airways strake. All 10 Superleggeras had their production number matched to the tail number of an actual Concorde. This car is ‘G-BOAC’, the flagship of the British Airways fleet until October 2003 and a very special Concorde in its own right.
Now on permanent display, it holds the speed record for a commercial aircraft (at 1,488mph), was the first Concorde to land in the USA, and also the first airliner to complete four Atlantic crossings in a day. The DBS Concorde Edition is powered by a twin-turbocharged, 5.2-litre V12 engine, which produces 715bhp and 900Nm of torque. The engine sends its power to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, and offers a 0–62mph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 211mph. This example sits today in superb condition with just one owner from new and showing just under 3,000 miles.
This specific car also features the Titanium exhaust upgrade styled to look like the jet tailpipes and mimic the engine acoustics of Concorde. It benefits further from full Topaz car paint protection film and maintains all additional factory accessories including the matching luggage set and jacket. Our vendor has an enviable collection of historic British motor cars ranging from one of the most famous sports cars ever produced to this modern supercar. With an eye for detail and a childhood fascination with Concorde, it was inevitable that he donned his velvet dinner jacket for the very special dinner at the Aerospace Bristol museum where he met the car positioned below Concorde.
Highlights of the evening included meeting Concorde’s most travelled passenger who had taken some 700 flights and was invited to inspect the Aston’s interior. Presented to auction with the aforementioned luggage set and jacket, together with the book packs and, just for the sale at auction, our vendor has generously registered the car with the private suffix TT68 OAC. Whilst limited-edition modern supercars are not uncommon, there is nothing that comes close to the historical connection between Aston Martin and Concorde, icons of heritage and engineering.
