With just under 40,000 miles, this Acura NSX-T presents beautifully. Finished in black with a black leather interior, it rolls on factory silver-finish wheels wrapped with low-profile, high-performance tires and features modern upgrades such as a custom Pioneer sound system with GPS, a rearview camera and a built-in K40 Electronics system. Powered by the 3.2L V-6 engine and 6-speed manual transmission, it retains the original NSX driver’s manual—pop the top, fire up the smooth VTEC engine, depress the clutch, slip it into gear and enjoy the drive. Introduced in 1989 at the Chicago Auto Show, the NSX brought a lot of firsts and innovations to the market.
It’s been said that this car single-handedly caused a shakeup at Ferrari, where a certain head manager told the designers and engineers that the NSX was the car to beat and if it couldn’t be done, pack up and go home. Who knows if it’s true or not, but it could be. The NSX brought semi-affordable pricing to the world of the performance exotic car. It was fashioned with an aluminum body, the engine used titanium connecting rods, and deficiencies were corrected without delay to continue delivering the best sports car Honda knew how.
It was developed using Ayrton Senna and fighter jet influences, and for 1995, the NSX-T with a removeable center section roof became the only NSX available until 1996, when the fixed roof became available again, the T becoming an option. But, the most exciting moment was arguably in 1997, when the engine was increased from 3.0L to 3.2L, going from 270 HP to 290 HP, and a 6-speed manual replaced the 5-speed. For 2002, Honda really dialed in the styling and feel of the NSX by installing fixed, exposed HID headlights, larger wheels and tires, a revised suspension and, once again, aced the fixed roof design for the T designation only.
This would sustain through 2005, when Honda would suspend production indefinitely. Finding a late-model NSX with low miles that hasn’t fallen victim to heavy modifications is a rare treat—much like the NSX itself.
