The MG 07 has made an impressive debut in China, attracting more than 21,000 refundable reservations within just 20 hours of opening pre-sales. Encouraged by the overwhelming response, MG says its immediate focus is no longer tracking reservation numbers but expanding production capacity ahead of the model's official launch in August 2026.
Pre-sales began on July 29, with prices ranging from 125,900 yuan ($18,600) to 168,900 yuan ($24,500). Customer deliveries are expected to begin during the third quarter of 2026. While the reservation figures highlight strong early demand, the company notes that these are refundable bookings rather than confirmed sales or completed deliveries.
MG executives have ambitious goals for the new liftback. According to SAIC Passenger Vehicle Vice General Manager Zhang Liang, the company wants the MG 07 to become China's best-selling four-door coupe, competing directly with models such as the Xiaomi SU7 and Xpeng Mona M03. Whether it can achieve that target remains to be seen.
Built on SAIC's Nebula platform, the MG 07 is available with two rear-wheel-drive electric powertrains. The 400-volt version delivers 239 hp and up to 650 km of CLTC range, while the flagship 800-volt model produces 320 hp, offers up to 845 km of CLTC range, and supports ultra-fast 5C charging.
Technology is another major highlight. The cabin features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P processor, a 15.6-inch 2.5K touchscreen, an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster, a 168-liter front trunk, a 697-liter cargo area, and a 30-liter dual-zone refrigerator. Higher-spec versions also receive LiDAR and Momenta's R7 World Model driver assistance system.
Will the impressive reservation numbers translate into real sales once deliveries begin? Can the MG 07 challenge the Xiaomi SU7 in China's fiercely competitive EV market? And is this one of the most compelling electric liftbacks launching in 2026?
