Lucid is recalling 27,185 Lucid Air sedans from the 2022–2026 model years because an issue with the exterior lighting circuits could cause overheating, smoke or even fire.

According to NHTSA documents, the low-voltage lighting system may not provide adequate overcurrent protection. Excessive amperage can heat the wiring, potentially damaging the headlights or taillights and, in severe cases, igniting a fire.

Lucid says it is aware of three suspected fires, four smoke reports and 33 warranty claims involving damaged wiring for the center high-mounted stop lamp (CHMSL).

Fortunately, the fix is available through an over-the-air software update. Software 2.10.0 and newer reduces the eFuse amperage and prevents a faulted circuit from being re-energized during the same key cycle. Owners who have not installed the update are advised to park outdoors and away from buildings or other vehicles.

By the time the recall was filed, 20,719 affected cars had already received the updated software. Lucid plans to contact remaining owners by October 16.
