    Cadillac Eldorado Convertible, 1954

Chassis No.: 546277279 • Exterior: Black • Interior: Black • Body: Convertible • 1989 AACA National Senior First Prize • 1996 AACA Museum Expo Premier Award • 1 of only 2,150 produced in 1954 • Odometer reads 67,148 miles • Functional factory headlight dimmer • Functional factory spotlight • Parade fiberglass cover for the top • Cadillac 331 CI V-8 • Automatic transmission • Power steering and brakes • Power windows, seats and top • Owner’s manual Recognized for its quality on a national level, this 1954 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible has received an AACA National Senior First Prize (1989) and the AACA Museum Expo Premier Award (1996). A beautiful motorcar in the tradition the Cadillac marque alone can bring, this is one of only 2,150 Eldorado convertibles produced in 1954, a year that saw the debut of the fourth-generation Series 62 model design. This car has an odometer reading of 67,143 miles and showcases the Eldorado level of opulence. Starting under the hood, the car is powered by the Cadillac 331 CI V-8, its 4-barrel carburetor topped with a twin-opening air cleaner, aqua engine pain and AC Delco accessory lettering. This is backed by an automatic transmission, and the car is further equipped with power steering and brakes. The exterior and soft top are covered in black, with a parade fiberglass cover for the top included in the sale. As is traditional for this era, the word Eldorado does not appear on the body itself—the telling icon to this premium offering was gold plating on the Cadillac emblems and the use of additional chrome trim that did not appear on other, less expensive examples. The interior is done in black leather and features a two-spoke steering wheel, power windows, seats and top, beige accent trimming, functional factory headlight dimmer and a functional factory spotlight. The tasteful grille was distinctive with its horizontal slates that run to the edges of the front fenders and chrome Dagmar points on the upper bumper drawn together by a thin line of chrome, proudly wearing the AACA accolade plates. A gorgeous wire-spoke wheel design with red Cadillac-crest centers and wide whitewall tires are the final touches on this car, which lives up to the storied reputation for which the Eldorado has always been recognized. https://www.mecum.com/lots/520716/1954-cadillac-eldorado-convertible/

However, for 1956, Cadillac expanded the Eldorado line with a hardtop coupe called the Eldorado Seville, rebranding the droptop as the Eldorado Biarritz. With an original MSRP that edged in on the $7,000 mark, just 2,150 Biarritz were produced that year. This 1956 Eldorado Biarritz features the cowl tag showing Style No. 56-6267SX, positively identifying the car as an Eldorado Biarritz. Fitted with a dual-quad 365/305 HP V-8 engine and Hydra-Matic transmission, the Biarritz spoils occupants with power steering, power hydraulic drum brakes, a power-operated white convertible top with a hard-shell parade boot, power windows, a signal-seeking AM radio, a heater and defroster, a remote side-view mirror, EZ-Eye tinted glass and woven carpeting with heel pads. It’s restored in its original Alpine White, and Eldorados also received unique tailfins fitted with special tail lights, special quarter-panel styling, additional chrome trim on the doors and a gold-finished grille and “Cadillac” script. The two-tone red and white interior features pleated leather seating upholstery, brightwork upon the dashboard and interior panels and other unique details defining it as one of Cadillac’s most luxurious and exclusive offerings. For 1953, General Motors celebrated its design leadership with the introduction of three limited-edition convertibles: the Cadillac Series 62 Eldorado, the Buick Roadmaster Skylark and the Oldsmobile 98 Fiesta. Each was a factory custom-built car with exclusive colors and special features, setting them apart from the rest of the lineup. The Eldorado was the most expensive of the special trio, costing around $7,700, and was available with a short list of optional extras such as air conditioning and wire wheels, which retailed for $620 and $325, respectively. Needless to say, neither the car nor the options were for the financially faint of heart. Just 532 were built that year, with Cadillac focusing on more palatable pricing to entertain a larger market in subsequent years. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1124288/1956-cadillac-eldorado-biarritz-convertible/
