You can't fool the general public and with over 2.8 million Volvo 240/260s sold during their lifetime, the message is clear. These cars are well-built; workhorses and they have to be to cope with the long Swedish winters. All panels are fully galvanised and reliability is a given. There is no breaking down when it's 20° below outside. This is the 240 GL, the mid-engined of the range with two litres and four cylinders at your disposal. The GL relates to comfort level and with electric windows, special Volvo snow mats and the elegant charcoal velour interior, it is easy to see why it was so popular in the 70s and 80s.

Supplied fully serviced from the vendor’s private collection and complete with a 12-month MoT test certificate, this example stands out not only for its low mileage but as well as its remarkable condition. This represents one of the more versatile models supplied with four doors, a petrol engine and a five-speed manual gearbox. The quality of the interior reflects the exterior and this Nordic classic is now one for collectors.
