This vehicle was debuted at the 2008 Paris Motor Show and was designed by Volkswagen's chief designer Walter de'Silva. The design is said to be more aerodynamic, helping fuel efficiency, and is quieter than its predecessor. Following criticism of the downgraded interior trim quality of the Mk. V Golf in comparison to the Mk4, Volkswagen opted to overhaul the interior to match the quality of the Mk. IV Golf, while maintaining the same user friendliness from the Mk. V. It is available with both five- and six-speed manual transmission, and six- or seven-speed Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG)(with Dual Clutch) transmission options.
In 2010, Volkswagen brought back the Golf nameplate with the mid-cycle refresh. This superb very low mileage example, only a mere 11,000km (6835 miles) from new, was imported from Japan and is presented in red with grey cloth interior. It comes with air conditioning, electric front and rear windows, automatic lights and wipers, electric folding mirrors and also has nine service stamps in the history file which also contains its mileage guarantee certificate and its ULEZ compliant.
