A low mileage example of an early, UK-delivered Smart City Coupé. Dreamt up by Daimler-Benz and Swatch of all people in the mid-90s, the Smart (a name created by combining Swatch, Mercedes and Art) set out to revolutionise the Micro-car. 599cc Turbocharged Inline 3-Cylinder Engine, Electronic Multipoint Fuel Injection, 55bhp at 5,250rpm, 6-Speed Automatic Gearbox. Allowing Parisians to park nose-in to the curb directly outside their favourite café since 1998, this 2002 two-owner example with only 30,985 miles displayed at the time of cataloguing, is perhaps the closest you can find to the original concept. The blue cloth interior also feels box fresh, all in line with its low miles.
This vehicle benefits from recent recommissioning including a water pump, a NSR wheel bearing, and a driveshaft. The off-white paintwork contrasts nicely with the black b-pillars, all very functional for a city car. The wheels also show no signs of curbing. With just two former keepers on the logbook, this is perhaps one of the best examples currently available on the market.
