Rolls-Royce introduced the Corniche in 1971 as the coupé and cabriolet version of the Silver Shadow. While its crisp styling represented a new direction for Rolls-Royce, its presence and luxurious appointments left no doubt as to its maker. From the beginning, the Corniche enjoyed great popularity, becoming an instantly recognisable cultural icon in the process—so much so that prospective buyers faced a waiting time of up to four years for their new Corniche!

In addition to sportier bodies, both versions of the Corniche offered greater performance than the Silver Shadow. In keeping with time-honoured Rolls-Royce practice, careful development and relentless improvements were made throughout the lengthy production cycle of the Corniche. A set of four-wheel, ventilated disc brakes debuted in 1972. Cruise control was standard equipment, and despite its weight of nearly 5,000 pounds, the Corniche was a very capable performer, with acceleration from rest to 60 mph in less than 10 seconds, en route to top speeds exceeding 120 mph.

This immaculate Rolls-Royce Corniche Coupé was delivered new in 1977 to Zurich and was acquired by the current owner in 2006. At this time the Corniche had only covered 77,000 kms from new. The current owner of this luxurious touring car decided to treat the car to extensive restoration work. The bills on file from Garage Autodynamic in Switzerland amount to well over the equivalent of £10,000. Expenses include work to the electrical system, heating system, suspension, new carpeting and much more. Furthermore, there is a separate bill for repainting the car, equivalent to over £7,000. Having had a small fortune spent on maintenance as well as paint, it is sure to please its new owner for years to come.
