The Rolls was purchased from HR Owen by its first owner, one K Lucking of Boughton near Chester, who kept the car until 1954 when it was acquired by an S Goddard of St Johns Wood. In 1959, E Doughty of Abbots Leigh near Bristol bought 'GLZ 75' and would retain the Rolls-Royce until 1981 when he sold the car to the celebrated Patrick Collection, which in turn kept it until 1999. The Rolls has since had four further owners, including our vendor.
Some seven years ago 'GLZ75' was sold to a Swiss private collection. Prior to that the car had been maintained by P & A Wood. In the last few years a vast amount of money has been spent on works including a full engine rebuild, fitting a new clutch, and dealing with everything else that needed attention.
Accompanying the car is a massive file of bills issued by recognised marque specialists including Harvey Wash, P & A Wood, Fisher Restorations, Ristes of Nottingham, and Jonathan Wood to name but a few. Representing the pinnacle of the coachbuilder's art on the Rolls-Royce 20/25 chassis, 'GLZ75' is said to be in superb order throughout and worthy of display at any prestigious concours. The Masons Black paintwork is in beautiful order having been resprayed a few years ago, while the interior is trimmed in tobacco coloured leather with medium brown carpets, likewise in lovely order. The woodwork is embellished with highly figured burr walnut and presents very well.
Pleasingly, the car comes with a complete original tool kit in the fold-down tray in the boot lid. There is also a plug-in inspection lamp housed in the boot, and a brass Lucas spare bulb holder.
All the lights and indicators work as they should. We are advised that the car starts instantly and runs well, and is an exceptional driver with taut steering and effective brakes. Oil pressure is a healthy 30lb under load when hot, while the water temperature is around 60 degrees. A full-flow oil filter has been fitted, making for easy oil changes. This car needs for nothing and is only being sold due to the advancing age of the owner and his wife.
