To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Twingo in 2023, Renault planned several operations, including the creation of a number of show cars based on Twingos converted to run on electric power, using the EV kit developed by R-Fit. These kept the original gearbox, but in place of the four-cylinder petrol engine, they were fitted with an electric motor, batteries and all the controls necessary for a set-up of this type. They are, however, prototypes which were granted individual vehicle approval and cannot in any way be registered for road use by a new owner. This Twingo is one of these specially built vehicles.
Inspired by the ‘boy band’ culture of the 1990s and 2000s, it applies the codes of the Y2K aesthetic, a name derived from the acronym for ‘Year 2K’ or ‘Year 2000’, attributed to the programmer David Eddy in reference to the year 2000 bug. In response to this retro-futuristic movement, this Twingo has a predominantly turquoise colour scheme, translucent elements such as the gear lever gaiter, computer typography for the Twingo logos, and seats and door cards covered in a shiny grey trim suggestive of a spacesuit... Fitted with a transparent sunroof, this extremely original Twingo prototype stands out superbly from all the mass-produced examples. Comment: Crédit photos © Peter Singhof
