Following the 400-unit homologation production run that allowed the Renault 5 Turbo to comply with Group 4 regulations, the French manufacturer sought to simplify the exciting hatchback by revealing the Turbo 2. The revised car was cheaper to make while not losing its performance edge. The Turbo 2 made use of standard Renault 5 components; replacing light alloy panels for steel equivalents, the Bertone dashboard and seats were phased out, the interior fitted with that of the Renault 5 Alpine Turbo. The Turbo 2 utilised the same 1.4-litre engine from the Turbo and offered similar performance, with a top speed of 200 km/h and accelerating to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds.
This 1983 Renault 5 Turbo 2 left the factory finished in white with a black interior. It was cherished throughout its life and the low odometer reading of 7,835 km at the time of cataloguing reflects this. The original fabric seats have been exchanged for a set of aftermarket black leather alternatives. Offered with this car is a dating letter, hex key, manual and radio manual, and a spare wheel. Save for the leather seats, this Renault 5 Turbo 2 retains many of its period-correct features and is a desirable low-mileage example of an iconic 1980s performance hatchback.
Après la production des 400 exemplaires de Renault 5 Turbo indispensables pour permettre son homologation en Groupe 4, le constructeur français a réfléchi à une version simplifiée et a présenté fin 1982 la Turbo 2. Bien que moins chère à produire, cette voiture ne perdait rien en matière de performances par rapport à sa devancière. La Turbo 2 reprenait des éléments de Renault 5 standard, avec par exemple le remplacement des panneaux de carrosserie en alliage par de l'acier, ou un aménagement intérieur de Renault 5 Alpine Turbo au lieu de la version créée par Bertone. La Turbo 2 reprenait le moteur 1,4 litre de la Renault 5 Turbo et offrait des performances similaires, avec une vitesse maxi de 200 km/h et une accélération de 0 à 100 km/h en 6,9 s.
La présente Renault 5 Turbo 2 de 1983 était blanche avec intérieur noir lorsqu'elle a quitté l'usine. Elle est restée préservée pendant toute son existence et le kilométrage très bas qu'affiche le compteur, de 7 835 km au moment de rédiger ce catalogue, reflète cette situation. Les sièges d'origine en tissu ont été remplacés par un jeu de sièges accessoires en cuir noir. La voiture est vendue avec une lettre de datation, une clé de démontage, un manuel, le mode d'emploi de l'autoradio et une roue de secours. A part les sièges en cuir, cette Renault 5 Turbo 2 est conforme à sa configuration d'époque et représente un exemplaire désirable d'une spéciale d'homologation emblématique des années 80, avec un faible kilométrage.
