A one-owner car with only 15,099 original miles, this 1994 Porsche 968 Cabriolet is a prime example of a low-production classic. It is generously equipped with power windows, power steering, power brakes, air-conditioning, an AM/FM radio with cassette player, cruise control, limited-slip differential and 17-inch Carrera Cup wheels with painted crest center caps. Only 1,447 Porsche 968 Cabriolets equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission were imported to the U.S. between 1992-95. This car is No. 5 of just five of those cars finished in Riviera Blue, and it’s also one of only two of those paired with a Midnight Blue interior.
Its condition is beyond reproach and clearly reflects the fastidious maintenance, care and preservation bestowed upon this car by its loving owner. The Porsche 968 shared the much of the design language of its predecessor Porsche 944. However, despite its similar body silhouette to the 944, the 968 was a vastly improved and developed automobile. The 3.0L inline 4-cylinder engine was updated with a 16-valve cylinder head and featured varioRAM—Porsche’s version of variable valve timing, which increased the horsepower rating to 240. The body design incorporated exposed pop-up headlights, a styling cue taken from the flagship Porsche 928.
The Porsche 968 had an exceedingly smooth inline 4-cylinder engine achieved by using two internal rotating balancing shafts. Its rear-mounted transaxle enabled a near perfect front-to-rear weight distribution, making the Porsche 968 a very predictable and pleasurable cornering car. The car was an expensive purchase in its time with a base price of $51,000. It was also a labor intensive car to build. A Porsche 968 Coupe was sent to ASC—American Sunroof Company—in Heilbronn, Germany for decapitation of its steel roof and installation of the Cabriolet soft top before returning to Porsche for final assembly. This car comes complete with books and manuals.
