Car and Driver magazine declared the "Porsche 944 is the best news from Zuffenhausen since the 911." Porsche introduced the 944 in 1982 to great anticipation. The 944 was better equipped and more refined than the 924s; it had better handling and stopping power and was more comfortable to drive. The Turbo variant, introduced in 1985, boosted horsepower up to 217 and was certainly one of the hottest cars of the day.

The Porsche 944 began as a well-respected machine from the factory, so it is easy to understand someone modifying a regular 944 into a turbo 944 “clone” by installing one of the more powerful factory Porsche 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder turbo engines into a non-turbo spec chassis. That is what is reported to have occurred to this particular red with black interior example. Along with the engine transplant (which is partnered with a manual five-speed transmission), this emulation continues with the refitting of bumpers, instruments and seats.

This Porsche 944 also has air conditioning, AM/FM radio with cassette, tinted glass, leather interior, driver and passenger side airbags, rear window defroster, bucket seats, alarm, alloy wheels, cruise control and aftermarket steering wheel package. The power features are generous in number and includes locks, mirrors, seats, windows, steering and four-wheel disc brakes.

The Porsche 944 has always felt like a proper sports car; forget what some may have said about being softened by air conditioning and electric helpers in this respected German platform. They were known to be instantly at home on the city streets or in a track setting where the free-revving engine, proper gearing and suspension can make you feel right at home.
