A comprehensive, five-year, $90,000 restoration was completed on this rare and desirable Porsche 914-6 Targa in 2024, resulting in an extraordinary show-quality example of the breed. Originally purchased at Ogner Porsche in Canoga Park, California, in March 1971, this life-long California Porsche was finished new in special-order Code 83 Green Metallic paint, which was matched with its new Glasurit paint and protected with ceramic coating after the body was stripped to bare metal and prepped during the restoration. XPEL paint protection was then applied to the entire front bonnet and fenders. Euro tail lights and turn signal lenses replace the North America-spec originals.
The 911T-sourced flat-6 engine (No. 6405607) was rebuilt by long-time Porsche marque specialists Aase Motors of Fullerton, California, who also rebuilt the 5-speed manual transmission and converted it to a side shifter design for improved performance. In addition to the original Weber carburetors, the engine also features custom Ferrari Red powder coating on the intake manifolds and valve covers, Carrera tensioners, a new alternator and a new clutch and adjustment also performed by Aase Motors. Mechanical upgrades also comprise the reconditioned original wiring harness, rebuilt original CDI box, new fuel tank and sending unit, a new 19mm master cylinder and new brake pads.
The suspension incorporates new ball joints, Turbo tie rods, new bushings, rebuilt original CV joints and new Bilstein shocks at all four corners. The five Fuchs alloy wheels were restored by Al Reed Polishing of Anaheim, California, and are fitted with high-performance Goodyear Eagle Sport radial tires. Autobahn Interiors of National City, California, was tapped to restore the driver-oriented cockpit that contributes so much to the 914-6’s unique driving experience.
The original door cards were retained, the twin bucket seats and steering wheel were recovered in factory black upholstery, and the one-of-a-kind late model Appearance Group console was customized with a 911 clock, 924 oil pressure gauge and a 914-6 emblem. The original Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio and sound system now features upgraded speakers behind the factory enclosures, with a hidden Blaupunkt amplifier and Bluetooth unit boosting sound quality and functionality. North Hollywood Speedometer of North Hollywood, California, restored the factory gauges.
The 914 rubber dash pad, new pedals and custom green and black coco mats complete the interior appointments, rounding out the concours-grade restoration of this highly sought-after collector Porsche.
