The 993 generation of the legendary Porsche 911 hit the scene in 1994 as a replacement for the previous 964 generation. While the design was largely similar, the 993 features a more swept-back and aerodynamic appearance, with the headlights of the 964 being more integrated into the body and the rear haunches taking on a smoother look. According to Porsche, every part of the 964 was designed from scratch, including the engine, with only 20% of the parts being carried over. The car sat on a new light-alloy rear subframe with a new multi-link coil springs and wishbone rear suspension, removing the previous generation’s lift-off oversteer.
Mechanically, the 993 was the first 911 to offer a standard 6-speed manual transmission, and it carried on the choice between a rear- and all-wheel drive powertrain. The regular Carrera coupe and cabriolet variants were powered by a naturally aspirated 3.6L SOHC flat 6-cylinder engine, producing 282 HP and 250 lb-ft of torque through a newly developed dual-flow exhaust.
