This 1975 Porsche 911S Targa is a fine example that was factory ordered with a number of desirable options including air-conditioning, Blaupunkt cassette player, Fuchs alloy wheels, and Koni shock absorbers. The car presents a particularly dashing form in a striking Copper Brown metallic exterior complemented by a rich Cinnamon leatherette interior. The history of the Targa was interesting, as Porsche looked to combat concerns about traditional convertibles when it introduced the model in 1967 with an innovative approach in terms of structure, safety and styling. A signature element of this design was the Targa bar that, in essence was a roll bar that provided passenger safety protection.
Likewise, it was a key element for increasing structural integrity, but it was the styling and open-air motoring that captivated Porsche enthusiasts. With its signature stainless-steel clad roll hoop, the Targa was the only open-air 911 model available from 1967-82. In 1983, Porsche added its Cabriolet to the 911 model lineup giving prospective buyers three familiar body style choices—Coupe, Cabriolet and Targa – that remain available to this day. The Targas typically sold in relatively low volume, helping to make these past models a rare and desirable part of the 911 legacy.
Sold new in California, this particular Targa spent most of its life in the arid climate of Nevada for 31 years where it underwent an exterior respray in the correct factory color. This vintage 911 Targa combines classic styling with excellent mid-1970s performance of 0-60 MPH in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 135 MPH. This car has undergone a recent service that included new brakes, tires, shifter bushings and fuel pump together with a fluid change out and tune up. This Targa comes complete with its original tool roll, jack, spare tire and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
