The year 1973 was the final year of the short wheelbase Porsche 911. From here on, although still potent, 911s got longer, bigger, loaded with more and more creature comforts and heavier year-by-year. Those facts alone make the 1973 911S highly sought-after today, but this example has some unique features that push it to a higher level. This 1973 911S Targa is one of only 923 examples produced that year and has undergone a comprehensively restoration. The body is rust-free and there has been over two years of work invested in the superb paintwork. Finished in the German national racing color of Silver Metallic paint over a unique, special-order color-to-sample Dark Green interior.
The special color extends to the seat bolsters, headrests, door panels and even on the lower dash panel. The rare sport seats also feature Houndstooth inserts, which are a stylish period attribute. The Sisal floor mats make for a nice period touch and the VDO gauges look ready for action. The Targa top offers the best of all worlds: convertible fun with more convenience than the era's folding tops with better protection against the elements. The Targas also sport a nice safety feature with a built-in roll hoop. Out back, under the engine cover is a professionally rebuilt original 2.4L flat-6 engine with plenty of torque mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
Disc brakes on all four corners meld with the iconic Fuchs wheels to provide the type of stopping performance that one expects out of a Porsche. With a highly detailed undercarriage, this is a nice example of a 911 Targa that just happens to provide a true benchmark in terms of design, engineering and performance.
