Extreme is the one word that aptly describes the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS. Incredibly fast with a factory-rated top speed of 209 MPH, this thrill-ride makes a robust 620 HP from its twin-turbocharged 3.6L engine that has been tuned to the same specification as the Porsche GT1 prototype Le Mans-winning race car. This machine was built with one goal in mind: to reassert Porsche’s dominance of engineering excellence by putting itself atop the Nürburgring lap-time hierarchy by eclipsing the lap record time set by the famed Porsche Carrera GT supercar in a sort-of super 911-based road car.
Race-car performance was proven by lapping the challenging Nürburgring in a record-shattering 7 minutes, 18 seconds. With only 500 examples produced in 2011, the 911 GT2 RS uses a simple recipe for its success: take an existing 997 Turbo, add the GT3 RS suspension and brakes, install the GT1-inspired racing engine and then ruthlessly reduce the weight of the car.
The drastic weight-reduction program that pares this machine down to a trim 3,050 pounds is accomplished following deletions and substitutions; the all-wheel-drive system has been extricated and replaced with rear-wheel-drive only, the rear seats have been removed, the standard front seats have been replaced with lightweight sport seats, the front fenders have been replaced with carbon-fiber units, multiple aluminum suspension bits have replaced their steel counterparts, and new lightweight wheels are fitted. This GT2 RS is finished in Guards Red with platinum-colored center-lock wheels and a carbon-fiber hood, front splitter and rear wing.
The interior is finished in black leather with red Alcantara accents on the seats, door panels, steering wheel and shift knob, as well as a carbon-fiber interior trim package. The car presents in superb condition with only 4,680 original miles and comes autographed by Porsche legends Hurley Haywood and Peter Schutz.
