This 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS—No. 381 of just 500 ever produced—blurs the line between race car and street-legal road car with a factory-rated top speed of 209 MPH. The motivation behind the GT2 RS was to reassert itself atop the Nürburgring lap-time hierarchy by eclipsing the pre-existing time of its Carrera GT supercar with a 911-based road car. The 911 Porsche GT2 RS met the challenge and lapped the challenging Nürburgring in a record-shattering 7 minutes and 18 seconds. The GT2 RS recipe is simple: add horsepower and reduce weight.
The engine is the 3.6L horizontally opposed 6-cylinder 620 HP engine built to the approximate specification as fitted in the Porsche twin-turbo GT1 prototype Le Mans-winning race car.
The car has been subject to a drastic weight-reduction program to pare it down to a trim 3,050 pounds by the following deletions and substitutions: the all-wheel-drive system has been extricated and replaced with rear-wheel-drive only; the rear seats have been removed; the standard front seats have been replaced with lightweight sport seats; the front fenders have been replaced with carbon-fiber units; multiple aluminum suspension bits have replaced their steel counterparts; and new lightweight wheels are fitted. The GT2 RS is not for the faint of heart.
This is a visceral machine devoid of all-wheel-drive and electronic intervention devices that requires extreme focus and skill from the driver. Hence, it is held in both high regard as well as with fear and trepidation for its uncompromising personality. This GT2 RS is finished in Guards Red contrasted by black center-lock wheels and carbon-fiber trim on the hood, front splitter and rear wing. The interior is finished in black leather with the carbon-fiber trim package and red deviating stitching on the seats, door panels and dashboard. Driven just 677 miles since new, this 6-speed GT2 RS is accompanied by its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
