Refinished in its original Warwick Gray Iridescent paint scheme, this 1950 Pontiac Chieftain Streamliner convertible with an original two-tone red and cream interior and a black canvas top is a stunner, from its lighted amber hood ornament to its rear bumper guards. It was restored previously, and the odometer reads 55,594 miles.
Still firmly entrenched in the “Silver Streak” period of Pontiac design, the Chieftain was based on the familiar GM A-Body platform unveiled for the 1949 model year, yet it possessed a look that distinguished itself from its Chevrolet and Oldsmobile counterparts by way of its wide-mouth grille with five vertical elements bisected by a horizontal bar, full-width bumper and, of course, the quintet of chrome strips adorning the hood and rear deck. Bladed rear fenders with simple round tail lamps and a matching rear bumper round out the look. Under the hood is a matching-numbers L-head straight-8 that traces its roots back to the 1933 model year.
For 1950, it featured a 3.375-inch bore and a 3.75-inch stroke for a total displacement of 268 CI. When equipped with a 4-speed Hydra-Matic transmission, which this car has, the compression ratio was 7.5:1, and with a Carter 2-barrel, the engine developed 113 HP at 3,600 RPM with 214 lb-ft of torque at 2,000. Other features include a functional in-dash clock, bumper-mounted driving lamps, original wheel covers with wide whitewall tires, an original spare wheel and jack set, and a new 6-volt battery.
