For 1964, the Pontiac Tempest entered its second generation as a larger, more traditionally styled and engineered vehicle. It was a car that sought to be something for everyone; it could be basic, very affordable transportation or a handsomely appointed car blending performance and luxury. The Tempest was hugely customizable and fit virtually any budget, making it very appealing to the emerging and massive youth market all the manufacturers were looking to capture. Along with all-new styling, the Tempest was also available with the GTO option package in 1964, which brought a healthy dose of performance to the table, appealing even more to the youth market.
This 1964 Pontiac GTO has been customized to offer a higher level of performance and luxury than Pontiac ever imagined. Schwartz Performance built the chassis, which features QA1 single adjustable coilover shocks, Baer Extreme-Plus 14-inch cross-drilled rotors with Baer 6S 6-piston calipers, a Winters 9-inch rear axle housing with full floating hubs, a Moser 9-inch center section with Detroit Truetrac differential, a custom stainless-steel fuel tank by Rick’s Tanks, and a Schwartz Performance G-Machine frame.
Schwartz Performance also built the 7.0L/675 HP LS7 crate engine complete with a billet serpentine pulley system and Schwartz 1.875-inch primary stainless-steel headers leading to a Schwartz custom ceramic-coated stainless-steel dual exhaust system. The engine is paired with a Tremec T56 Magnum 6-speed manual transmission mated to a custom steel driveshaft. A Be Cool radiator with dual electric fans keeps the engine at normal operating temperatures. The black paint and bodywork were performed by Roy Brizio of Roy Brizio Street Rods in South San Francisco, California.
The dark paint is complemented by a red pinstripe and provides an exquisite backdrop for the brightwork, while HID headlights light the way. The matching black interior features a number of details such as black bucket seats, a custom-turned instrument panel fitted, white-face AutoMeter gauges and more. Rolling on low-profile tires with chrome Forgeline SO3P wheels, this GTO brings a lot to the road.
