Ever wonder what it is like to get shot out of a cannon? That was the question Pontiac asked of its prospective customers in 1965. Their answer was to select one of three body designs that supported the now-legendary mid-’60s GTO and find out about their undeniable power. The three styles were the Convertible, Sport Coupe and the Hardtop Coupe, like this example. Interestingly, Pontiac called their ”post” cars the Sport Coupe. In most cases, the General Motors line would reserve this title for the bodies that had total openness between front and rear windows.
Finished in the uncommon color of Tiger Gold; the GTO is nicely complemented by a black interior and matching vinyl top. The GTO line all had a suspension firmed up with heavy-duty springs and stabilizer bar. Bucket seats with belts were also standard, along with dual exhaust, custom pinstriping and performance tires.
What makes this car all the more special is being powered by a Tri-power 389-cid, 360-hp V-8 engine that is matched to a Hurst-shifter four-speed manual transmission. Additional features include desirable Hurst wheels and redline tires.
The car was once in the Reggie Jackson collection and is accompanied by documentation from PHS.
