Hampered like other manufacturers by the material demands of the Korean War, Packard managed to retain interest in its products with a redesign program launched in 1951 under the direction of new Chief Stylist Richard Teague. Using the existing body shell limited Teague’s revamp, but a major change was the use of the Mayfair convertible’s square-cornered windshield frame across the entire line. One of 1,518 Model 2679 Packard convertibles built in 1953, this beautiful example exhibits pleasing Carolina Cream paint crested with Packard’s classic chrome sculpted swan hood ornament.
The car is well dressed with a red leather interior offering a pushbutton AM radio with power antenna, fender skirts, body side spears, a beige boot over the power soft top and full wheel covers on red-painted steel wheels wearing wide whitewall tires. Packard’s 327/180 HP Straight Eight engine, automatic transmission and Eas-A-Matic power steering combine for easy driving pleasure.
