Automakers were in pursuit of vintage looks, which is where the Nissan Figaro comes in. Its design originated from Pike Factory, Nissan’s special project group, alongside the Pao, Be-1 and S-Cargo. Despite its two-door configuration, the Figaro could seat four thanks to its 2+2 configuration. A total of 20,073 Figaros were built during the model’s single year of production, all of them in right-hand drive configuration. This particular 1991 Nissan Figaro shows a mere 6,937 kilometers (4,311 miles) on the odometer. It retains its original soft top, which retracts into the trunk while keeping the side body elements fixed.
Its original Spring Green exterior is contrasted by the white-painted top and white convertible roll-back soft top over a crème-colored interior with leather seats, original Spring Green carpeting and original Figaro-branded carpeted floor mats. The cabin maintains the original dash pad, is equipped with functioning instrumentation, and has a Clarion AM/FM/CD stereo, making it the first production car ever equipped with a CD player.
Other interior features that make this Figaro a more practical car than it seems include a passenger’s parcel shelf, console-mounted cupholders, a sway bar, a sliding trunk tray, a glass rear window with an electric defroster, air conditioning, power side-view mirrors and a sliding storage tray located in a separate compartment below the spare wheel. Under the hood is a turbocharged, transversely mounted inline-4-cylinder engine producing 75 HP through a 3-speed automatic transaxle. With the timing belt recently replaced, this Figaro is ready to see if it can approach its 106 MPH top speed.
Stopping this monstrous JDM beast is a set of power front disc and rear drum brakes behind 12-inch wheels with complementary white wheel covers and Figaro hubcaps.
