This 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK 55 AMG convertible is powered by a hand-assembled 5.4-liter V8 engine signed by the certified AMG technician and mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission adapted from the V12 S-Class to handle the torque. The engine features a forged billet steel crankshaft, forged and weight-matched connecting rods and pistons, lightweight AMG-specific chain-driven single overhead camshafts with two intake and one exhaust valve per cylinder, eight coil packs, 16 spark plugs and a bore and stroke of 97x92mm.
The dual-resonance intake manifold with tuned runners helps optimize torque and power by using two resonant frequencies to increase performance, and the high-compression ratio of 10.5:1 helps deliver 342hp. A larger 4-bolt driveshaft connects to a reinforced rear differential to manage power delivery. Standard traction control and Electronic Stability Program keep the vehicle stable under acceleration. This convertible is equipped with a fully retractable power top and aluminum AMG sport wheels. The interior features an upgraded Bose sound system, navigation with voice command, and heated and cooled seats trimmed in upgraded top-grain AMG leather and carbon nickel accents.
Additional equipment includes 5-speed paddle-shift capability and AMG-calibrated adaptive transmission controls.
