A new model designation first introduced by Mercedes-Benz for 1992, the CL-Class was a family of luxurious high-performance four-seater coupés based on the top-of-the-range S-Class saloon platform but 8" (200mm) shorter in the wheelbase. There would be four generations produced up to 2015, when the model designation changed to S-Class Coupé for the C217 models.
The car offered here belongs to the CL's final C216 generation, introduced in 2006 at the Paris Motor Show, and like its predecessors has the beautiful 'pillar-less' coachwork with no 'B' post between the curved side windows. Four models were on offer, each with its own engine/transmission combination, ranging from the 'entry level' naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V8 to the 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 found in the flagship AMG version, as seen here.
Now the official performance division of Mercedes-Benz, AMG has a long history of producing high-performance derivatives of Mercedes' standard production vehicles, and these improved versions enjoy an enthusiastic following world-wide, with prominent figures of the motor sport, entertainment, sport and business communities being counted among aficionados.
With a little over 600 horsepower on tap, the CL 65 AMG offered a level of performance rivalling that of the considerably more expensive Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR supercar. Needless to say, the CL 65 AMG incorporated all the latest electronic driver aids to protect the occupants from over-enthusiastic usage. It was also very quick, with an (electronically limited) top speed of 250km/h (155mph). According to Car magazine: "the CL65 is the closest you'll get to Lear Jet levels of cross-country pace without needing an aircraft licence. It simply chews fast A-roads and spits you out at the other end feeling fresh and comfortable. It is a cruiser of the highest calibre."
As its name suggests, the 40th Anniversary version was built to celebrate AMG's 40th birthday in 2008. Only 40 were made. Special features included 'AMG Alubeam' paintwork; a 'ONE OUT OF 40' badge on the COMAND controller cover; and exclusive nappa leather upholstery and Alcantara headlining. As well as the standard CL's comprehensive complement of features, this car's specification also includes the following AMG components:

A full listing of this car's outstanding specification may be found in the copy of the sales invoice of file, which shows that it was sold new to the current vendor by the official Mercedes-Benz distributor in Kuwait for the sum of US$289,000. At time of cataloguing the odometer reading was 2,272 kilometres. Kept dry stored since acquisition this beautiful modern Mercedes will require recommissioning before further use.
