First debuted at the Paris Motor Show in October 2014, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT was the second high-performance GT offering developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-Benz’s AMG racing subsidiary, the first being the SLS AMG. With input from Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, the AMG GT was an evolution of the SLS featuring a spaceframe chassis and body constructed from aluminum alloys, with select magnesium and steel panels. With motive force coming from a front, midmounted M178 4.0L twin-turbocharged V-8 engine—with the exhaust manifolds and turbochargers nested inside the cylinder banks to minimize turbo lag—the AMG GT generates 550 HP and 502 lb-ft of torque.
With all that power funneled through an AMG 7-speed Speedshift dual-clutch transmission, the AMG GT is capable of going from 0-60 MPH in just 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 196 MPH. Available as either a coupe or roadster, the example on offer is a 2018 AMG GT C Roadster and one of just 50 special examples produced to honor the 50th anniversary of AMG.
