The engine was given the unique internal designation of M178 LS2 by the AMG engineers based on its motorsports-focused architecture that included a unique flat-plane crankshaft, special camshafts, a remapped firing order and larger turbochargers that resulted in 720 HP and 590 lb-ft of torque enabling the AMG GT Black Series to reach a terminal velocity speed of 202 MPH. In 2021, it set the record for the fastest street legal sports car around the 12.8-mile Nurburgring race course with a blistering time of 6:43.616 minutes. However, to just limit the accolades of the AMG GT Black Series to its “over the top” performance would be an injustice.
It is opulently appointed with the interior trimmed in black exclusive Nappa leather/DINAMICA microfiber with orange deviating stitching. The interior cabin features an AMG Speedshift 7-speed transmission, dual zone automatic climate control and a Burmester high end surround sound system. The ride quality can be selected to either “Race” or “Street” and is equally competent at delivering both ends of the driving spectrum upon demand. The car is fitted with a plethora of carbon-fiber body panels (fenders, hood, tail-gate, rear wing) as well as carbon-fiber trim accent pieces (front splitter, lower rocker panels, hood exhaust vents, fender canards and mirrors).
