Ever since it debuted at the March 1957 Geneva Salon, the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster continues to rank, along with the 300SL Gullwing coupe before it, among the finest and most influential sports cars ever produced. Derived from the 300SL competition cars that dominated the 1952 racing season, both road-going versions of the 300SL can rightly be considered the world’s first supercars.

Instantly recognizable with its timeless appearance and capable of electrifying performance, even by today’s jaded standards, the 300SL Roadster's technical sophistication—including its SOHC, fuel-injected 3.0L engine and updated, fully independent suspension—remains the standard by which the world’s finest automobiles are judged. Of course, with its sensuous bodylines and avant-garde flair, the 300SL continues to evoke rich images of adventure, speed and victory, even while at rest. Just 1,858 300SL Roadsters were produced in all.

Representing the latter stage of 300SL Roadster production, this example was delivered to the United States on April 1, 1961, and purchased new at Martin Loeber and Sons by Don Youngblood of Park Ridge, Illinois. Ownership history and service records from new accompany it. Integrity is exceptional, and according to the corresponding Mercedes-Benz Zertifikat, the 300SL retains its matching-numbers fuel-injected 3.0L/240 HP inline 6-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual transmission. Factory-original equipment also included a removable auxiliary hardtop, Becker Mexico radio and a 3.91:1 rear-axle ratio.

In addition to its already formidable mechanical specifications, this 300SL is the 15th car of the series factory-fitted with newly available 290mm 4-wheel disc brakes. As offered, this 300SL Roadster benefits handsomely from a five-year restoration completed by Dominic Incantalupo in 2019, with the car having already received a three-year restoration in 1994 by noted expert Bob Platz of Camden, New Jersey. Visually stunning with a color change from the originally specified Graphite Gray with black top and red interior, this 300SL now sports a beautiful Fire Engine Red exterior finish complemented by a body-color hardtop, beige soft top and a tan leather interior.

Original fitted luggage, original books and paperwork, an original tool kit, roadside jack and a fire extinguisher are included. Pure automotive royalty, this later-production 300SL Roadster is a wonderfully presented and highly equipped sporting icon.
