Handsome modern classic with six-cylinder, 2.6-litre motivation and subtly enhanced bodywork. The Mercedes-Benz 190E (W201) was launched in 1982 as the compact executive saloon in the Stuttgart marque’s range, admired for its engineering quality and understated style. 1985 saw the arrival of the first 190E fitted with a six-cylinder engine, the M103.940 fuelled through the BOSCH KE-Jetronic injection system and offering a substantial 164bhp. The 1988 example we see here is finished in Smoke Silver Metallic over a Beige fabric interior, sitting on AMG Monoblock alloys and sporting a Mercedes Momo steering wheel.
Included in the history file is a 190 Model Owner’s Manual, previous MOT Certificates dating back to 2000 as well as historic invoices, the earliest dated in 2005. More recently an invoice from Mercedes-Benz of Poole evidences an engine service and rocker cover gasket. We are reliably informed that the previous owner carried out various works including a suspension refresh which included removal and powder-coating of the front and rear subframes, an overhaul of the braking system and replacement of components of the exhaust system.
Offered to sale with a recent MOT and fresh engine service and looking rather like the legendary Cosworth 16-valve cars, this 190E offers an interesting prospect as a classic daily driver with Mercedes-Benz steadfast reliability.
