This remarkable scale model has a special provenance that places it at the heart of the McLaren F1 GTR racing programme. Following on from the reappearance of the Gulf brand in motorsport during 1994 with the Gulf-liveried Kremer K8, the famous colours would adorn the F1 GTRs of the GTC team, campaigned with owners Ray Bellm and Lindsay Owen-Jones.
Gulf Racing/GTC was arguably the most successful team in the BPR Global GT Series, with Ray Bellm finishing runner up in 1995 before clinching the title in 1996. In total, Gulf Racing/GTC with Ray Bellm racked up 9 BPR wins making it the most successful team in the BPR series.
Believed to be a “one-off”, this model was commissioned by the marketing agent for Gulf UK and then it was displayed in the foyer of the company’s headquarters. The consigning owner worked for the marketing agent, so it is offered with a unique and unbroken provenance.
