As the launch model of McLaren’s Sports Series, the 570S debuted at the 2015 New York International Auto Show as a new and more usable model in direct competition with Porsche’s 911 turbo. Based on McLaren’s extremely lightweight and strong, race-derived Carbon Monocell II carbon-fiber monocoque structure, the 570S was, and remains, an ideal modern supercar that is startlingly well suited to everyday use as desired. Styling is clean and sleek with a smoothly flowing roofline and P1-inspired rear treatment including the slim LED tail lights and rear air diffuser. Dihedral-type doors maintain continuity with McLaren’s Ultimate and Super Series lines.
Power is delivered by a new variant of McLaren’s awesome rear mid-mounted 3.8L twin-turbo V-8 engine—designated “M838T E” and containing 30% redesigned parts and components. Power is delivered by a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Should anyone doubt the stunning potential of the 570S, its factory-rated 562 HP output yields 0-62 MPH acceleration in just 3.2 seconds and a 204 MPH top end. Handling is excellent, as expected, and braking is strong with a choice of carbon ceramic brakes or steel binders at no extra cost.
An excellent foundation for the new Sports Series, the influential 570S sired a wide array of companion models and successors including the 540C, 570GT, 570S GT4 and Sprint, the 570S Spider, MSO X, 600LT, 600LT Spider and 620R.
