Maybach Motorenbau was a manufacturer founded in 1909 by Wilhelm Maybach and his son; in 1960 Maybach was acquired by Daimler-Benz and remains a luxury brand of Mercedes-Benz. Daimler produced an ultra-luxury edition of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class under the Maybach brand thus creating an even more magnificent vehicle and offering unrivalled luxury and specification. To promote the new Maybach line, Mercedes-Benz engaged figures such as Maybach heir, Ulrich Schmid-Maybach together with golfer Nick Faldo to serve as brand ambassadors.
When commissioning a vehicle, Maybach would, upon request, offer a huge array of standard and non-standard specification; as long as it was safe, practical and ethical, it could be supplied. The last Maybach vehicle was manufactured in December 2012 although Mercedes-Benz have recently re-instated the name on the high-end S-Class which is known as a Mercedes Maybach.
This tastefully specified, low mileage example is presented in Dark Himalaya Grey with a black leather interior and enjoys the added benefit of a glass partition. These cars were bespoke when ordered from the factory to the specific specification of the buyer at the time. This particular example has a fridge fitted in the rear with silver champagne flutes and silver tumblers, four new Continental tyres fitted, front and rear in-car mobile telephone (not tried and tested at the time of sale), remote TV control for the screens fitted to the rear of the front seats, electric and heated front and rear seats, wood door cappings and dashboard and pearlescent roof lining.
The interior is in exceptional condition as is the exterior paintwork with only some very minor bubbling to the lacquer on top of the rear offside door. The leather Maybach wallet comes with all handbooks including the service book with seven stamps from a mixture of Mayback Centre of Excellence at Brooklands Mercedes-Benz and Tim Purslow Mercedes-Benz specialist who carried out the last service recorded in the booklet on 15th October 2024 at 38,238 miles, there is also a current MoT test certificate which expires on 16th October 2025.
These super luxurious limousines were and still are the envy of most desiring of car enthusiasts and high-end users, powered by the so smooth 5.5 litre V12 Mercedes-Benz engine providing extremely quiet travel at a great pace if need be and with its timeless/elegant looks. This vehicle has only ever been for private usage and as such the interior is unblemished. This example is a great opportunity to join the high echelon of owner/users – this one having been once owned by musician and rock legend, Peter Townsend. Consigned by James Good
