Capturing the glamour and innovation of the Jet Age, the Lincoln Premiere entered its second year in 1957 with extensive updates from designer Bill Schmidt. Among the most notable were taller tailfins, flared quarter panels, and a new front grille with a futuristic "Quadra-Lite" system that gave the car a wider, more commanding stance.
Buyers chose from almost 100 paint combinations for the exterior, while the interior delivered unmatched comfort and sophistication through tri-tone leather trim packages and state-of-the-art stereos. There was even a push-button chassis lubrication system, something not seen since the grand tourers of the 1930s. Under the hood, the 368-cubic-inch V-8 received a power bump to 300 horsepower via what Lincoln referred to as a “high-turbulence combustion” system featuring a new Carter four-barrel carburetor and slipper-type, high-compression aluminum pistons.
Offered from Sonny Schwartz’s Suzy Q Collection, this 1957 Lincoln Premiere Convertible likely ranks among the most decorated of its kind. Completing production on 19 February 1957, it left Lincoln’s Wayne, Michigan, factory finished as it is today in Bermuda Coral over an optional tri-tone leather interior of Black, White, and Bermuda Coral. In addition to the Premiere’s luxurious list of standard features, this car came equipped with the push-button chassis lubrication system, Town and Country radio with power antenna, padded instrument panel and sun visors, wide whitewall tires, seat belts, six-way power seat, dual-control heater, and Autronic Eye automatic headlight dimmer.
The car earned numerous national awards following a restoration in the mid-nineties. These honors encompass multiple Antique Automobile Club of America accolades, including First Junior in 1994, First Senior in 1999, and First Grand National in 2006, as well as various Lincoln and Continental Owners Club awards, highlighted by Best of Show at the 2007 National Meet in Federal Way, Washington.
