Introduced as long ago as 1979, the Lancia Delta remains one of the all-time great rally cars, securing six consecutive World Rally Championship Manufacturers’ titles and four Drivers’ crowns between 1987 and 1992. The development of the turbocharged, four-wheel drive Group A rally cars—through Integrale eight-valve, 16-valve, and ultimately Evoluzione variants—was mirrored in the company’s production range; their 212-horsepower “Evoluzione II” of 1993 represented the model’s ultimate roadgoing incarnation.
Late Integrale production was punctuated by several limited-edition versions, of which the Evoluzione II “Giallo Ginestra” remains one of the most coveted. Available exclusively in the eye-catching hue of the same name, the cars featured Recaro seats trimmed in dark gray Alcantara with contrasting yellow stitching; just 220 such cars were constructed.
Originally a Japanese-delivery car, this spectacular example was imported into the UK in late 2014, where it resided for the next six years. During this time, it was fastidiously maintained, the first significant recorded work being a comprehensive service performed by Auto Integrale of Beenham, Berkshire. This included the replacement of the cambelt, water pump, brake discs and pads and shock absorbers, at a cost of £3,467.67. Additionally, in March 2015 the car benefitted from the fitment of a new billet steel flywheel and clutch assembly by Allitalia of Wrexham, North Wales.
Further services were carried out by marque specialists in April 2015, March 2017 and March 2018 at 72,835, 74,502 and 76,319 kilometers respectively, prior to the car being sold and imported into the United States by Miller Motorcars of Greenwich, Connecticut on 14 July 2020.
Shortly after its arrival in the United States the car was acquired by the consignor, who promptly instructed Miller Motorcars to attend to several outstanding matters so as to satisfy his customary exacting standards. This was performed in February 2021, and included the replacement of all necessary axle joints, seals, and rubber boots, as well as the front and rear differential oil seals and clutch slave cylinder. Furthermore, a full technical appraisal and service was carried out, and new tires fitted; the total cost amounted to some $7,633.96. In 2022, the Lancia received an engine-out service, as well replacement of rubber intake hoses and vacuum lines.
Having covered fewer than 2,500 miles since—and with the odometer indicating fewer than 82,000 kilometers (~50,953 miles) at cataloguing—this magnificent Integrale boasts not only an enviable maintenance record but also modest mileage consistent with responsible enthusiast use. Furthermore, it represents a singular example of one of the most accomplished and versatile performance and competition cars of the late 20th century, an accolade guaranteed to secure its desirability, and collector potential, well into the 21st and beyond.
