The Beta Coupé was launched in June 1973, with Lancia Works preparing roughly a dozen 1.8-litre coupés to compete in Group 3 for the 1974 season. By the summer, the Beta was homologated for Group 4 with all existing Works cars converted.
This Beta Coupé was owned by Lancia S.p.A. and then sold to Scuderia Grifone, who liveried the car in white with the bonnet sporting two large blue stripes and “H F” letters. For the 1974 season, Bruno Ferraris was partnered by co-driver Daniele Cianci. Grifone rallied chassis number 1050 until 1977, when the car was sold to Roberto Beretta—who campaigned it through to 1980. He retained this Beta Coupé until 1994, after which the car changed hands and joined a large private collection in 2016. It was sold in 2024 to the current owner, who went on to compete in the Modena Cento Ore and spent €50,000 to prepare the Lancia for historic rallying events.
A time-warp example, this Group 4 Beta Coupé is one of the earliest examples prepared by Lancia Works and has a fascinating competition history. Its recent mechanical preparation provides an exciting opportunity for enthusiasts to acquire a true 1970s motorsport gem.
La Beta Coupé est sortie en juin 1973. Lancia Works prépara une douzaine de coupés 1,8 litre pour le Groupe 3 de la saison 1974. Avant l’été, la Beta était homologuée pour le Groupe 4 et toutes les voitures Lancia Works existantes furent converties.
Cette Beta Coupé, propriété de Lancia S.p.A., fut vendue à la Scuderia Grifone, qui la dota d’une livrée blanche et de deux grandes bandes bleues sur son capot, ainsi que des lettres « H F ». Lors de la saison 1974, Bruno Ferraris la pilota en partenariat avec son co-pilote Daniele Cianci. Grifone la fit concourir jusqu’en 1977, avant de la vendre à Roberto Beretta, qui la présenta en compétition jusqu’en 1980. Il conserva cette Beta Coupé jusqu’en 1994. Elle changea ensuite de mains et rejoignit une vaste collection privée en 2016. Son propriétaire actuel l’a achetée en 2024 et a investi 50 000 € dans sa préparation pour des rallyes historiques. Elle a participé notamment à la Modena Cento Ore.
Cette Beta Coupé Groupe 4, qui a traversé les époques, est l’un des premiers modèles préparés par Lancia Works et possède un historique de compétition fascinant. Sa récente préparation mécanique en fait un exemplaire très désirable pour ceux qui cherchent à acquérir un véritable joyau du sport automobile des années 1970.
