In 1991 AM General made the inspired decision to offer this remarkable vehicle for public sale. Apart from additional creature comforts, the civilian Hummer is virtually indistinguishable from its military counterpart. The civilian H1 got first released with a sensibly low-powered engine that struggled to move the approximately 8,000lbs machine and then suffered severe reliability issues when more power was added in the following years.
However, these two issues were finally resolved on the last year production of the H1, in 2006, thanks to the 6.6L Duramax V8 diesel engine made by General Motors for their heavy-duty pickup trucks. Called 'Alpha', that version of the H1 finally received the power, torque and speed that it desperately needed. This, coupled to an unchanged iconic design, made the H1 Alpha one of the most performing off-road vehicles at the time. Produced at only 729 examples, the 'Alphas' logically stand today as extremely sought-after modern collectible vehicles.
THE MOTORCAR OFFERED
Manufactured in April 2006 at the Mishawaka, IN plant, that 4-passenger wagon H1 Alpha was purchased new by the current owning family from Lynch Hummer in Missouri before being brought to South California a year after that. Today, that Civilian Black H1 shows slightly above 36,500 original miles on the odometer. It notably features some black leather seats, a newly installed headliner and a premium Jensen entertainment system with rear seat screens. Additionally, the car is equipped with the factory Adventure Package notably coming with 17 in. 2-piece forged aluminum wheels, a 12,000 lb. winch and an Eaton Electronic ELocker front and rear locking differential.
As a well-kept example, that offering represents one of the rare opportunities to get a constantly value rising H1 Alpha with low miles and just one owner from new.
