Having traveled only 12,000 miles since new, this GMC Typhoon is presented in highly original condition and features no modifications from factory specification. One of the most collectible vehicles on the planet, the Typhoon was based on the small-midsize two-door Jimmy SUV. This truck astonished the world when it debuted with performance figures rivaling serious sports cars, such as the Chevrolet Corvette, Nissan 300Z Turbo and Ferrari 348.
This magnificent performance was courtesy of a 4.3L V-6 engine modified extensively with a Mitsubishi turbocharger, Corvette pistons and much more to produce a staggering 280 HP and lion-taming 360 lb-ft of torque: highly impressive performance figures from a truck that weighs just a gnat’s hair less than 4,000 pounds and exhibits all the aerodynamics of a brick. Lowered and riding on special 16-inch wheels wrapped with low-profile Firestone Firehawk SVX performance tires, Typhoons employed all-wheel-drive to plant as much power as possible on the pavement. They wore blacked-out trim, air dams and ground effects to aid in the performance and lend an aggressive look unlike any other.
The Typhoon was one of those exemplary vehicles that teased and taunted the imaginations of many performance-loving souls in the know, especially those partial to trucks, but even fanatical sports-car devotees were impressed by the Typhoon, which almost helps its exclusivity as a performance vehicle. Retaining its original Midnight Black and original black leather interior, this Typhoon has the original window sticker and documents, original Firehawk tires and a roof rack.
