After a frame-off restoration, this 1949 GMC 100 emerged in very original condition, complete with an inline 6-cylinder engine and a column-shifted 3-speed manual transmission. The light tan leather interior is a place of great radio-delete simplicity, with Ivory colored gauges, a three-spoke steering wheel and a patternless-upholstered bench seat highlighted with dark piping. An absolutely eye-catching pickup, the red exterior is exquisitely well detailed with tan-painted steel wheels dressed with bright beauty rings, GMC-branded hubcaps, and wide whitewall tires. A finished wood bed floor and a bevy of restored chrome and stainless components sustain the spectacular visual impact.
One of the most sought-after commodities postwar American consumers wanted was a new car, so all the motor manufacturers were hurrying to bring fresh options to the market to retire their resurrected prewar vehicles. GMC was no different, and for 1947, the division would introduce the New Design series of trucks, the company’s first postwar redesign, replacing the C-Series trucks introduced in 1941. While sharing an extensive amount of design and engineering with corporate cousin Chevrolet, GMC customers could look forward to trim and interior features that were more upscale than what Chevrolet’s new Advance-Design trucks brought to the table.
