En 1955, GMC inaugurait une nouvelle gamme d’utilitaires nommée « Task Force » dont le design était modernisé, proche de celui des voitures de tourisme, avec un style flamboyant et coloré. L’exemplaire présenté provient des Etats-Unis, et ainsi que le confirme son numéro de série, il s’agit d’une version « ½ ton » reposant sur un châssis à empattement long qui accueille un plateau à ridelles. Sorti des usines d’Oakland en 1957, il est équipé du moteur 6 cylindres en ligne de série.
Dans la grande tradition américaine de cette époque, il affiche une chatoyante livrée rouge rehaussée de chromes que l’on retrouve à bord avec la sellerie en skaï rouge et blanche restaurée et le tableau de bord chromé. La carrosserie a été repeinte et s’avère saine, quelques cloques seront néanmoins à reprendre côté droit. Son actuel propriétaire en a fait l’acquisition en 2020 en Belgique, et lui a fait passer le TUV (contrôle technique allemand) la même année. En bon état de fonctionnement mais ayant été peu utilisé ces dernières années, il méritera une révision de principe.
Son design original et sa mécanique robuste en feront un engin publicitaire efficace, ou bien tout simplement un véhicule de promenade qui sent bon l’Amérique des années 50. This particular example comes from the United States and based on its serial number, it is indeed a “½ ton” version built on a long wheelbase chassis that includes a dropside platform.
It left the production line in 1957 and is fitted with the standard 6-cylinder straight engine. In the great American tradition of this era, it has a brilliant red livery enhanced with chrome that can be found on board, with the restored red and white skai upholstery and the chromed dashboard. The bodywork was repainted and appears to be in good condition, although a few blisters will need to be repaired on the right side. Its current owner acquired it in 2020 in Belgium and had it pass the TUV (German roadworthy inspection) the same year. In good operating condition but not used much in recent years, it will need a standard service.
Its original design and reliable engine will make it an effective advertising vehicle, or quite simply a touring vehicle that reflects well America of the 1950s.
