Just 1,396 Ford Thunderbirds were finished in Bronze Metallic, a color used only in 2005, marking it as one of the rarer Thunderbirds in the history of the marque. This one shows a mere 12,139 miles on the odometer. Powered by the 3.9L DOHC V-8 engine and Select-Shift automatic transmission, the ’Bird comes with a removable porthole hardtop, color matched to the exterior and accompanied by a carrier. A power-operated soft top is also on call, with the optional Sand-colored boot cover bringing a more finished look to the car when the convertible top is stowed away for open-air motoring.
Equipped with a number of features such as a tinted windshield, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, power brakes and power steering, it also has an AM/FM stereo with a six-disc CD changer, cruise control, heated bucket seats and the Sand interior package. This package included a Sand-colored convertible top, a Sand-colored leather steering wheel, Sand-colored seats, black mats trimmed in Sand, bronze tones on the dash, and console trim and interior detailing in flat black. Rolling on 17-inch multispoke wheels with blackwall tires, the overall look is elegant and bold.
With 2003 marking Ford Motor Company’s 100th birthday, the company decided it was time to remind people of some of the high-water marks from Ford. The company teased the public with concept vehicles like the GT90, Thunderbird and Mustang leading up to the celebratory year, all of which were met with huge excitement, so when Ford introduced the Thunderbird for 2002, expectations were high. The Thunderbird was noted for high-quality construction and materials, but the inaugural year was a lackluster performer. Ford corrected this the following year with variable valve timing and some computer tweaks, making the 3.9L V-8 shell out 280 HP.
To boot, a number of unique and limited-edition colors were offered alongside specialized packages to further heighten the exclusivity that was the new Thunderbird. Ford ended production in 2005, leaving on a high note.
