One such team was Team Hezeberg of The Netherlands, a small squad co-owned by the ace touring and sports car driver Toine Hezemans and his business partner Ernst Berg. For the 2022 Daytona 500, the team became the first European squad to enter the Daytona 500, using this car – chassis 030 – a new NextGen Mustang, powered by a Roush-Yates Racing Ford engine, and piloted by none other than the dynamic Canadian, Jacques Villeneuve. At 50 years of age in 2022, Villeneuve had little to prove behind the wheel. He was the 1995 Indy 500 winner, the 1995 Indycar Series Champion, and the 1997 Formula 1 World Champion, for Williams.
But 'once a racer always a racer', and NASCAR has long presented a unique appeal to drivers from other disciplines, which has stretched all the way to the glitz and glamour of the Formula 1 grid. Villeneuve was far from the first and certainly not the last F1 driver to dip his toe into NASCAR racing. Team Hezeberg showed up at Daytona with chassis 030, wearing the signature Dutch orange livery of Toine Hezemans and Ernst Berg's company, Hezeberg Systems. Villeneuve immediately impressed the team, qualifying the car at an average speed of over 176 mph on his first attempt.
His drive caught the eyes of sponsors, and overnight a deal was made, and the car was wrapped in the colors of its new sponsor, Woodie's Wash Shack. On race day, Villeneuve applied his years of experience to keep the car out of trouble in an eventful race, to finish a remarkable 22nd position, a considerable achievement for his first superspeedway bump-drafting experience in a completely unfamiliar car and race series. Powered by a mighty Roush-Yates V8, it thumps out 600 horsepower in standard form, but is capable of an astonishing 920 horsepower in unrestricted form, fed through a robust XTrac Transaxle that provides excellent balance.
The Le Mans Garage 56 entry from 2023 showed how capable, versatile, and reliable the NextGen chassis truly is. As offered, this chassis is currently in excellent condition with very few race miles under its belt, and includes spares including additional bodywork, wheels, and suspension components. NASCAR NextGen cars are currently only available to licensed and registered racing teams, making the availability of this car a one-off opportunity to obtain the very first example in private hands, with the added cachet of World Champion provenance.
