FORD GT40 RE-CREATION, 1964

This CAV GT Ford GT40 re-creation was manufactured by Auto Futura of Cape Town, South Africa, in 2007, before being shipped to the U.S. in 2008. Powered by an aluminum 427ci IR Roush V8 engine mated to a ZF 5-speed manual transaxle with a dog-leg first gear. Equipped with a forged crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, 8-stack fuel-injection system, aluminum cylinder heads, an 8-quart oil pan and 'Bundle of Snakes' exhaust headers. Stopping is provided by Wilwood brake calipers with front and rear 300mm rotors. The bodywork of the CAV GT is constructed from a vinyl ester resin-based composite, and this example is finished in silver with white stripes.

The black interior features fixed-back bucket seats with ring-grommet ventilation, black carpet, shoulder restraints, a gloss-finished wooden Nardi shift knob, a Mountney GT steering wheel and Smiths instrumentation, including an 8,000-rpm tachometer and a 220-mph speedometer with five auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer shows just under 1,200 miles (the title reads mileage exempt). Each corner is equipped with adjustable Spax Krypton coilovers riding on 17-inch BRM-style knock-off wheels wrapped with recently installed 245/40 front and 335/35 rear Pirelli P Zero Asimmetrico tires. Service in December 2020 included replacing the water pump and changing the transaxle fluid.

Paperwork included with the car indicates the aluminum 427ci Roush V8 engine was rated at 560hp and 540 ft/lbs of torque when new. TITLED AS A 1964 FORD GT40
