By 1962 Ford’s Galaxie 500 was well-established as the fleet leader of “The Lively Ones from Ford,” the most appealing of which was the Sunliner convertible introduced at mid-year. Styling was even cleaner than the previous year’s prize-winning design; the front grille went from concave to flat with horizontal bars, the vestigial fins were dropped and the dramatic “afterburner” tail lights were moved down into the bumper for a more integrated look that still has broad appeal to the contemporary eye. The ‘61’s very successful interior design was carried over virtually unchanged with the exception of engine-turned dash inserts.
The 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 convertible offered here is a real head-turner in festive Rangoon Red with White body accents, chromed wire wheels and wide whitewall tires. Fitted with a White power operated soft top, it is also optioned with a bright Red vinyl bench seat interior with tri-tone red, Black and White door panels, AM radio, bright pedal trim and pristine Red carpeting – in other words, the perfect surroundings for top-down fair-weather motoring. Ford’s 352/220 HP V-8, 2-speed automatic transmission, dual exhaust and power steering and brakes give the 500 Sunliner surprising “big car” performance.
