Ford created a new class of factory high-performance vehicles with its Baja racing-influenced Raptor, and this 2021 SuperCrew edition is the culmination of more than a decade of evolutionary improvements. With fewer than 250 miles on the odometer and the possible exception of a regulation-spec roll cage, the Raptor is a thinly disguised desert trophy truck with a grand touring interior. Lurking under the hood is a 3.5L twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6 high-output engine that delivers 450 HP and 510 lb-ft of torque through a 10-speed automatic transmission and limited-slip rear axle.
Equal-length, 3-inch dual exhaust with X-pipe crossover, trombone loop and active flow control valves feature driver-selectable, four-mode sound control from stealthy quiet to wide-open Baja. The new for 2021 5-link rear suspension packs competition-length trailing arms, a Panhard rod and longest-in-class, 24-inch coil springs to help keep the rear wheels kicking power down to the ground.
Anodized aluminum, 3.1-inch diameter, FOX Live Valve electronically controlled internal bypass shocks with position-sensitive damping can absorb up to 1,000 pounds of damping force per corner at full throttle out in the desert and automatically adapt for a comfy cruise down to the local store for ice-cold beverages and fishing bait. Fully functional exterior elements like the hood heat extractor and trailing edge fender vents draw inspiration from the Lockheed Martin F-22 jet fighter that shares its name. The SuperCrew cabin features bolstered seating and dual-zone climate control. The digital instrument panel and center screen provide customizable information and entertainment on demand.
Topped with a red hashmark at 12 o'clock and a laser-etched Raptor logo, the steering wheel is a command center with paddle shifters and audio controls within easy reach. Selectable seven-mode Terrain Management System adapts to a range of situations, and the twin-turbo terror is ready to roll over most anything on 17-inch forged alloy wheels and BF Goodrich all-terrain tires.
