The new F-1 pickup truck of 1948 was an important vehicle for Ford. Not only was it Ford’s first new post-war vehicle, but it was also one of the first pickup trucks to be designed with both practicality and aesthetics in mind. As it combined a stylish body with incredible functionality, this was a truck that would be as comfortable driving down Main Street as it would be working on the farm.

The second generation of the F-1 was introduced in 1953, and it was named the F-100. It is, arguably, the most famous name in all of trucks.

The F-100 offered here is identified by its serial number as having been originally built with the optional flathead V-8 engine, and indeed, it is still powered by a flathead, which has been mated to the standard three-speed transmission. This truck was restored about six years ago in Florida and is finished in sparkling Flamingo Red. It features a correct spotlight on the windshield pillar, and within, very good and correct cloth and vinyl upholstery and black rubber floor coverings can be found. Some interior trim, including the steering wheel hub, is original.

Panel gaps throughout are very good but not perfect, and they could easily be described as “like factory.” Under the hood is clean and authentic, with the exception of a conversion to a 12-volt electrical system, which was installed for easy modern driving. The odometer recorded 473 miles at the time of cataloguing, which is consistent with the fresh appearance of the restoration.

This is a very high-quality restoration of a landmark Ford truck.
