At one point head of Fiat, owner of Juventus F.C., and responsible for more than three per cent of Italy’s workforce, Gianni Agnelli was one of the 20th Century’s great industrialists. But he was also a style icon—a man whose elegance and eye for design helped shape the world of fashion. Nowhere was that effortless cool more evident than in his choice of automobile.
In 1958 “L’Avvocato” ordered two spectacular cars from Carrozzeria Ghia’s Mario Boano. Based on the floorpan and mechanical components of the humble Fiat Nuovo 500, the hand-built masterpieces featured rakish open coachwork, lashings of wood trim, woven front seats, and a plush rear bench for passengers. One was given to Aristotle Onassis, while this example was registered in Agnelli’s name on 25 June 1958 and used for entertaining friends and dignitaries at the spectacular Villa Leopolda in Villefranche-sur-Mer, France.

magazine and sparked a trend for beach cars and jollies that captured perfectly

. Thought to be the only surviving example, this car was given to Agnelli’s driver, Bernadino Aiassa, in 1973, and was sold to Mario Rossi a year later. Recently discovered by a noted Turin collector, the unrestored and highly original Fiat was exhibited at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in 2018. Presenting in beautiful condition, this remarkable rarity would surely add a touch of joy and glamour to even the most prestigious of collections.
A une époque directeur de Fiat, propriétaire de la Juventus FC et responsable de plus de 3% de la main-d'œuvre italienne, Gianni Agnelli fait partie des grands industriels du XXe siècle. Mais il était aussi une icône du style — un homme dont le charme et la vision du design ont contribué à façonner le monde de la mode. Et ce sont dans ses choix automobiles que cette élégante décontraction était le plus visible.
En 1958, “L’Avvocato” a passé commande de deux voitures spectaculaires à Mario Boano, de la Carrozzeria Ghia. Basés sur la plateforme et la mécanique de la modeste Fiat Nuovo 500, ces chefs-d'œuvre fabriqués artisanalement présentaient une audacieuse carrosserie ouverte, des lattes de protection en bois, des sièges avant en osier tressé et une banquette arrière confortable pour accueillir les passagers. L'une des deux voitures a été offerte en cadeau à Aristotle Onassis, alors que le présent exemplaire a été immatriculé le 25 juin 1958 au nom d'Agnelli et utilisé pour distraire ses amis et prestigieux invités dans la splendide Villa Leopolda de Villefranche-sur-Mer, en France.
Cette très importante Spiaggina est apparue dans le magazine Vogue et a lancé la tendance des voitures de plage qui incarnaient parfaitement la dolce vita. Récemment découverte par un grand collectionneur turinois, cette Fiat en très bel état d'origine, jamais restaurée, a été exposée en 2018 au Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. De superbe présentation, cette remarquable rareté ajouterait sans aucun doute une touche de gaité et de glamour même à la plus prestigieuse des collections.
